ANSYS - 2020 version has free student license - limited to certain mesh size, can’t use GPU, otherwise perfectly adequate. MAE lounge PC (right side on the back wall) has full license, 2022 version, and runs very fast. Only installed on this PC, unclear if license can be hosted on server (ask Martinelli?)

ANSYS files are NOT backwards compatible - once you edit with the ‘22 version, can’t open with ‘21 version. Lounge PC has ‘22, student edition is ‘21.

Manufacturing

Old method (probably best because familiar): Fiberglass, laid up over mold made from extruded polystyrene insulation foam board. See pictures in google drive (16-17). Question - how to accurately shape the foam - by hand? CNC?

Other question - can we let it dry in ambient condition or does it need vacuum bag?

“To make the fiberglass product of a particular shape, a mold of the same shape is needed. For a smooth outer surface of the product, as in the case of the car body panel, an inside-out or negative mold needs to be made. The mold can be constructed by many ways ranging from using chicken wires and clay to using the MDF (medium density fiberboard), to achieve more accuracy and a smoother surface to obtain a better product.” SAE International

CFRP vs fiberglass vs Kevlar: https://www.sciencepubco.com/index.php/ijet/article/view/21931

Fiberglass has worst material properties (modulus, fracture strength, tensile strength, fracture toughness BUT highest impact resistance
